Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes what trauma researchers have long known: the body keeps the score. Traumatic experiences, chronic stress, and emotional pain are not just stored in memory — they are stored in the body, in patterns of tension, posture, breath, and nervous system activation.

Talk therapy alone cannot always reach these body-level patterns. Somatic therapy works directly with the body to complete the healing process.

Somatic Approaches We Use

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE) — developed by Peter Levine, SE works with the body's natural capacity to process and release traumatic activation
  • Body awareness practices — learning to notice and work with physical sensations as they arise in session
  • Breathwork — using the breath as a tool for nervous system regulation
  • Grounding techniques — practices that help the body feel safe and present
  • Movement — gentle movement as a way of processing and releasing held tension

What Somatic Therapy Addresses

  • Trauma and PTSD — especially when talk therapy has not been sufficient
  • Chronic anxiety and hypervigilance
  • Dissociation and disconnection from the body
  • Chronic pain with psychological components
  • Emotional numbness or difficulty accessing feelings

Somatic Work in a Virtual Setting

Somatic therapy can be effectively delivered virtually. Sessions focus on body awareness, breath, and gentle movement that clients can do in their own space — often making the work feel more accessible and less clinical than in-person settings.
